Our Projects & Initiatives
Explore the diverse ways we preserve and celebrate Lamoni's rich heritage
Project Overview
From oral history collection to anniversary celebrations, our initiatives engage the community in preserving local heritage
Untold Lamoni Stories
Our flagship initiative collecting and preserving the personal histories that make our community unique. Through recorded interviews, written submissions, and photographic documentation, we capture the stories that official records don't tell - the daily life experiences, family traditions, and personal memories that reveal the true character of Lamoni.
This project invites community members to share their memories of growing up in Lamoni, running local businesses, participating in community traditions, and witnessing the changes that have shaped our town over the decades.
Sesquicentennial 2029
A comprehensive multi-year celebration commemorating Lamoni's founding in 1879. This ambitious project includes historical exhibits, community reunions, educational programming, and special events spanning from 2027 to 2029. We're planning heritage tours, historical reenactments, and the creation of lasting tributes to our community's founders and their vision.
The celebration will highlight Lamoni's unique character as a planned community and showcase how our founding principles continue to influence our community today.
Book of Mormon Bicentennial 2030
A scholarly examination of the 200th anniversary of the Book of Mormon's publication and its significant influence on Lamoni's founding and development. This research project explores how religious conviction shaped community planning, educational institutions, and social values in our town's early years.
Through academic partnerships and community engagement, we're documenting this important aspect of our heritage while respecting diverse perspectives and fostering interfaith understanding.
